Michael Schuster: (bottled 1913, rebottled 1986) Deep green-rimmed amber; dense nose, slightly curious, with just a hint of raisiny maderization and seeming to lack a point in freshness. But seductive nonetheless, with a beautiful hint of caramelized violets and still a real fruit-core presence. Rich, concentrated and very sweet for Bual; deep, silky textured, flatteringly fleshy, but well defined by its vigorous acidity. Quite high in volatile acidity, but generous and mouth-filling, too, with an enormously satisfying flavor; much more concentrated than the 1920, but perhaps a little less characteristic of the grape’s usual style; long to taste, a touch hot and firm from the volatility, and with a fine, burned-caramel length; impressive rather than refined. Great concentration rather than great finesse. Now and for who knows how long. 18+
