John Gilman: The Château Filhot shows off some of the most elegant and high-toned botrytis of the vintage, but it is quite clear that this lovely glaze struck already very ripe grapes, so there is also a real sense of alcoholic heft on the back end of this wine. The really very fine and estery nose offers up scents of lemon-zest, melon, bee pollen, citrus blossoms, lovely soil tones, and a judicious framing of vanillin oak. On the palate, the wine is deep, full-bodied and complex, with the concentrating effect of the botrytis raising the alcohol here to pretty heady levels, but with everything reasonably well reined in at the present time. A good, solid example of the vintage but a wine that I would drink on the young side. 2013–30. 15.5
