Nicolas Belfrage: On the light side, color-wise; slight garnet rim. Black- and red-berry fruit on the nose. On the palate, the structure underscores attractive small berry fruit and hints at the classic Porty finish, but it’s still quite austere. Drink from 2015. I have now tasted enough 2008 Barolo to say this is typical: austerity over charm. Nearer to complexity and nuances- 15.:

Bruno Besa: Deep garnet to tawny, yellow rim. Open, spicy nose, with prunes, truffles, and hints of orange peel and rosewater. Full body, with great tannins well balanced by the sweet red and black fruit. Long yet a touch green on the finish. This is a classic Barolo that needs time- 16:

Jancis Robinson: Mid-brownish ruby. Very captivating tertiary leaf-mold aromas. Delicate, violets; really lively and ethereal. Very far from a blockbuster but the sort of wine that only Barolo can make. Bravo! A true expression of 2008? Already relatively approachable. Delightfully pure. Drink 2014–24- 18 :
