BUY THE WINE

Tim Atkin: Dark purple/ruby. Faintly funky, rubbery nose. Foursquare, simple fruit, with too much extraction and oak on the palate. The fruit seems to have got lost somewhere along the way. A dry finish, and overall the wine lacks finesse. 9

Alex Hunt: Sticky, minty, blackcurrant-jam nose. Clumsy fruit on the palate, which is still very primary at this stage, lacking the necessary, refreshing acidity, as well as any savory nuance or the poised, dry finish that one would wish for here. 9

Anthony Rose: Dense, youthful ruby. Rather brooding and closed on the nose still, with more than a suggestion of Portiness. Plenty of sweet blackberry-jam fruit flavors and sweet concentration on the palate, but again a tad alcoholic and Porty, with super-ripe fruit that’s rich and berryish but lacks a bit of freshness, suggesting it may not be one for the long haul. 14.5
