Voliero Brunello di Montalcino Italy 2018 (14.50% ABV) – 92
BB | Deep ruby to pink. Ripe yet refined, black-fruit, oriental-spice nose, with prunes and cherries, blood oranges and Mediterranean herbs. Full-bodied, with rich fruit, fine tannins, and a long, herbal finish. A slightly overripe, yet well-made, wine. 91
MP | Complex notes of licorice, cherry, redcurrant, blueberry, damp earth, ink, tobacco, white pepper, bramble, licorice, vanilla, and cedar. The palate is equally impressive, with layers of flavor and supporting complexity from barrel maturation. There's a confident swagger to this Brunello, and the palate shows complexity of fruit, slightly overshadowed by oak, together with lively acidity and decent length. 93
AJ | Dark, deep black-red. Clean, fresh, a little more herbal than its peers, but this works well here; almost a pencilly refinement; and a hint of furniture wax helps fashion a complex and intriguing aromatic profile. Deep, firm, concentrated, and articulate, with ample complexity and intrigue; those herbal notes bring some lively redemption. This is another wine for which a year or two's extra storage would surely bring dividends. Genuine freshness at the core here. 92
