BB | Garnet to tawny. Rustic, evolved, black-fruit, and tobacco nose. Unbalanced, green palate, with a bitter finish. Disappointing. 82
MP | Simple, direct, and effusive nose, driven by lively red fruit including cranberry, redcurrant, cherry, and plum. This may be from a more northerly climate, or perhaps the winemaker has chosen to make the most of the cooler aspects of 2018, but this leads convincingly, with a core of red fruit on which are laid layers of new-oak tannins that add astringency and structure rather than length. This ought to have more depth of flavor but the tannins dominate and the wine seems to be lacking fruit. 93
AJ | Very dark black-red; almost opaque. One of the deepest wines in the tasting. Sweet and lavish... there is just a little bay leaf to remind us we are in Tuscany! Actually this is a beautiful aromatic profile, even if not classical; like some crazy Pomerol on tour and letting its hair down. Deep, full, thick, textured, lavish, deep, and extravagant. Blind, where would you place this? I've got no idea, but possibly not Tuscany. For all that, this is a very special, very powerful, full-throttle, and no-holes-barred wine; amazing drinking, neither forbidding nor vulgar, full of the intricacy and depth and finesse of its genes. 94
