Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis, Castiglione Falletto Piedmont Italy 2019 (14.5% ABV) — 93
AJ | Bright, clear, deep red-black. Excellent aromas: earthy, warm, respiring, a touch of petrichor, with lovely smooth glowing plum and cranberry fruits. Not a belter aromatically, but everything in there is everything you want. INcense, too -- some oak work here? On the palate, it's deep, vivid, almost thrusting. Lots there -- the aromatic pluralities are there on the palate -- in sweet, full style, but (for Barolo) it almost flirts with soupiness, Saved from that, I guess, by the tannins, which are very firm and almost brutal here. I don't want to be unfair and this is a generous and enjoyable wine, but just now the elements are a little undigested. With another five years, this may well win a higher score, and perhaps much higher: it has resource.Drink Dates: 2025 - 2040. 90
BB | Garnet to pink. Youthful, red and black fruit, crushed stoned, forest floor, touch of road tar nose. Medium to full body with sweet fruit, fine tannins, long and muscular finish.Drink Dates: 2025 - 2030. 94
MP | Complex, aromatic, clearly delineated notes of damp earth, red fruit, hay, cold ash, and sweet spice. This continues in the mouth where there is a gorgeous streak of fresh acidity, perfectly integrated tannins and a long, spicy finish with both black and red fruit notes. There's a welcome uptick in structure here but that augers well for future development.Drink Dates: 2028 - 2035. 95
