Stephen Brook | Precise and pure appley nose. Sleek attack, with fine acidity to give raciness and finesse. Intense and very youthful, with considerable austerity and grip. This shows complexity and spice, and vigor on the finish, with a light sweet-and-sour tone. Good length, and it has aging potential, too. | 17
Andrew Jefford | A slightly fuller yellow than its subregional peers. Delicate in aroma but very sound: a fruit bowl. But it’s as if I’ve left my glasses off and can’t quite make out, from across the room, which fruits they are: lacks a little aromatic precision. On the palate, this has lovely flavor development; I assume it has had a little longer in the bottle. Vivid, fresh, apple and citrus, with plenty of pith, too; a nascent vinosity; some crushed-stone complexities. The only thing holding my score back is that lack of aromatic precision and the sometimes excessive calmness and restraint that seems to come from Great Southern: You long for just a little more exuberance and emphasis. But this is very pure, very fine-crafted Riesling by any international standard, and I would love to drink it, too. | 15.5
Stephan Reinhardt | Pale gold. Very clear and concentrated on the nose, ripe pip-fruit, stony/earthy and herbal aromas—inviting. Very firm and salty on the palate, so the full body is well coated. Elegant and with good length. Still seems very young. | 16
