Nicolas Belfrage: Medium-bright; attractive color. Lovely floral and herb aromas. Nicely concentrated and perfumed palate, with just the right structure to balance the fruit. Quintessentially Barolo at its most elegant and complex but balanced self. Drink now for 10+ years. 18
Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red, shading toward mid-garnet. Fragrant, light, refined, and allusive; very subtle, poised, and engaging. This is a completely compelling wine aroma, full of felicities and nuance. On the palate, by contrast, I can’t be quite as enthusiastic: It is a little dry and elemental, with very hard, craggy tannins and a long pause between the fruit opening and the tannic follow-through. It’s unquestionably a fine Barolo of considerable aromatic sophistication, but it’s just a little forbidding. For confirmed devotees only. It will last well, though it will get even more gaunt. The tannins and the aromas will continue to provide faintly masochistic pleasure for many years. 16.5
Franco Ziliani: Ruby color with great light and brightness. The nose is fine, elegant, with red cherry and raspberry notes and some floral aspects (rose), as well as licorice and tobacco. Good length, solid tannins, structure, good persistence and richness on the palate, very earthy on the finish, and full of savor. Very young. Will improve over the next 5–10 years. 16.5
