Nicolas Belfrage: Bright, with a hint of garnet on the rim. Classic floral nose: violets, roses. Ripe fruit and fresh acid but tannins a little tough still. But plenty of flavor on the finish, with good length. Good wine, could drink now, probably better to leave it a couple of years: Drink 2015 for 10 years. If drinking soon, food would need a tannin-equalizing base. 16
Andrew Jefford: Deep garnet-red. Initially rather gruff aromas, but it clears in the glass to leave a mixture of ripe black fruit and truffley woodland complexities. A little bit kinky after time in the glass. Concentrated, dense, soberly tannic palate, but the ripeness of the fruit (and alcohol) brings glycerol, too, so the overall effect isn’t too craggy; ample mid-palate finesse. A well-crafted, aromatically complex wine of authority and charm. 16
Franco Ziliani: Very dark color; very dark for a Barolo. The aromas are rich and intense, with dried-flower notes, tobacco, underbrush, plum red cherries, and some mint. But too much ripe fruit and alcohol. Not a great structure. Medium body, with slightly aggressive tannins that are dried and bitter on the finish. Too much oak for my taste. 14.5
