Nicolas Belfrage: Deep, virtually opaque. More woodfire than floral on the nose. Smells Burgundian. A very rich, packed mouthful of fruit, however, with well-managed tannins and a perfect level of acidity. Harmonious as far as it goes, and not lacking in subtlety and type. Very fine wine, just not Barolo. Drink for at least 10 years. 16.5
Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red with clear garnet rim. A very dry, reedy scent; a hint of bonfire, or charred timber. Old-style aromatics that, for me, lack charm and amplitude. Light, reedy wine. Of course, the tannins are there, but the fruit is a little mean and recessive, and I don’t feel beckoned in. Surely a little disappointing for this vintage. 10
Franco Ziliani: Great intensity of color, with a good brightness. Very intensive nose, very ripe fruit, overextracted, great richness. Earthy notes, ripe plum and cherry, licorice and tobacco with some smokiness. Solid tannins almost velvety, great masses of fruit, great body and persistence, still very young but I’m sure that will become better and more harmonious over the next 10 years. Long finish, very savory. 16.5
