Nicolas Belfrage: Deep, almost opaque. Plums and tobacco on the nose. Very La Morra style, chunky, concentrated fruit, with firm acid and muscular tannins. Tobacco and herbs on the finish, medium long. Somewhat butch, though plenty there. Drink from 2016 for up to 10 years. 15
Andrew Jefford: Dense black-red core tapering to garnet edge. Lots of red summer fruits here, jostling for prominence; an almost rowdy nose but great fun. Exuberant and richly fruity on the palate, too—cherries, blackcurrants, redcurrants. Well-judged ripeness, with both an incipient sweetness and fresh natural acidity; supportive, shaping tannins bring all to order by the end. And only in Piedmont, somehow, can that which is fruity have so much ingrained poise and complexity. 15
Franco Ziliani: Color that you wouldn’t expect from a Nebbiolo wine: too dark and concentrated. The nose is dominated by oak, with toasty notes and notes of plum, red cherry, leather, and tobacco, as well as some violet and orange. Good structure, good length. Earthy note, but the tannins are dry and the wine lacks balance and elegance. Still very young, but too modern in style and overoaked. 14
