Nicolas Belfrage: Deep opaque. Not normally a characteristic of Nebbiolo. Little floral about the nose, more tar. Tough palate in terms of green tannins/acidity; little charm or attractiveness now. Some wood. Wait a few years? Not sure what will evolve. Certainly not for drinking now. Lay down until 2018, and try again. 14
Andrew Jefford: Deep red-black with a clear red rim. A dryish, refined, big-wood nose of modest articulacy. It smells right, but doesn’t drag you into adjectival overdrive. Deep on the palate: a big bowl. It has architecture. But how much is in the bowl? Somehow, once again, I am bothered a little by the lack of detail. Satisfying withal, but I can’t see this wine as one of the stars of the vintage. Good grapes in the right place: sound but basic Barolo. 13.5
Franco Ziliani: Ruby medium color; bright in the glass. Very appealing nose with ripe fruit, cherries plum, and blackcurrant, with some black licorice fleshy notes and some leather and underbrush. Good intensity, great structure and body, solid tannins that are not aggressive, still very young. Broad, rich, and harmonious; needs some years to have a better balance. 15
