Jesús Barquín: The nose displays fine oak notes, ripe black fruit, plums. The palate is a tad sweetish, perhaps due to the high alcohol level, with even more fresh fruit than on the nose, pleasant acidity, and powerful tannin (powerful but sweetish and promising integration). Still very young anyway. 16.5
Alex Hunt: Appealing aromas of baked bananas and coconut oak, but the overall effect isn’t too sweet; quite subtle nose. Super-ripe on the palate, with what seems like some residual sugar. This has Douro flavors in an Amarone structure: It hides the alcohol well, thanks to sheer concentration, but mercifully is not overextracted and even has some refreshing acidity and a savory-herbal finish. 16
Andrew Jefford: Dense, opaque black-red in color. Less aromatically focused than some of its peers, this is an attractive and appetizing scent majoring on the black forest fruits so typical of the region. There’s a little tarry warmth behind and a lick of vanilla. On the palate, it is soft yet ample, broad and ripe, with lots of black pastille fruit lent supple but palpable textures by extract and gentle tannin. Easy and affable, yet concentrated and true, too. 14.5
