Simon Field | Bottomless black; self-referential if one likes. A really attractive nose of loganberry, dark chocolate, pepper, and juniper. Behind that, a savory element, mint julep, too, cherry brandy. One is hopelessly seduced, Humbert-like, the youth presaging, in its latent perfection, the promise of a long and felicitous development. | 94
Andrew Jefford | Dense, deep black-red; relatively simple, cherry-like fruits without much hinterland. Round, soft, and accessible Vintage Port, with lots of pleasure in the short term, and the fruit qualities here on the palate are much better than the aromatics suggested (at this stage). There’s nothing wrong with its fine-grained tannins, but they won’t make the half-century. | 87
Richard Mayson | Open and fragrant, with lovely berry fruit and a touch of leafy hedgerow character on the nose. Firm, fresh, and minty on the palate. Mid-weight, with firm peppery tannins, good definition, and a long, vibrant finish. Very good middle-distance wine. | 90
