Simon Field | The wine dark core cedes to a cardinal’s robe; tenebrism and illumination; somewhat redemptive. A classic young Vintage Port nose, bristling with intent, buttressed by potential: compote, coal cinders, peat, and plush. All these are effortlessly captured on the palate, which is more aérien than anticipated, but only in a good way. Flowers and fruits; Arcimboldo in the kitchen garden. The acidity is shard-like, firm, holding it all together with purpose. | 92
Andrew Jefford | Dense, saturated black-red in color. Ample ripeness here, with the combination of new wine spirit and ripe, succulent plums a winning one: exuberant and enticing, though less aromatically multifaceted than some. On the palate, there is terrific fruit concentration and style: sumptuous creamy damson and plum fruits backed by adequate tannins and extracts to carry it through the mid-term. Dundee-cake richness on the finish. Classic Vintage Port virtues. | 89
Richard Mayson | Opening up to reveal ripe morello cherry fruit, with a hint of Douro warmth (not bake!) on the nose. Ripe and solid; a touch foursquare, with supple tannins rising in the mouth and a ripe but rather raw finish. | 88
