Tim Atkin | Floral, herbal, complex nose. Palate lighter and mineral with some chalky undertones and subtle reduction. Focused, taut, and well balanced with engaging freshness and palate length. Balsamic, layered, and long. | 93
Simon Field | Big-boned, with a deep, saturated color; nose of dark fruit, graphite, and spice; then a touch of volatility, oaky sinewy texture and a rich, robust slightly uncompromising palate; firm and a little raw; dark meats and wild plums. A precarious journey amid the rocky foothills of the Cantabria. | 90
Andrew Jefford | Dark black-red, but the opacity is fading a little now. Warm, glowing aromas in which ripe fruit and sweet oak are beautifully and enticingly elided—classic Rioja charm, in other words. Warm, full, poised, and lively, with super fruited energy and intricacy. There is nothing raw or gaunt about the acidity, and it is admirably bonded with the lively plum fruits. Firm yet discreet tannins and sane use of oak add to its digestibility and it’s sérieux. An excellent 2016. | 92
