Simon Field | Elegant color of wild strawberry, verbena, quince, sultana, and damson; the nose betrays wood smoke, an indifference to the rigors of time, and a dash of mature dried red fruit; in the mouth, there are figs, soft spice, late-season red-berried fruit, and a hint of aniseed; pleasing, challenging, and finely etched. Medium-weight, though, and maybe a touch pinched at the end. There is intensity here but somehow less by way of definition and even less by way of finesse. | 92
Andrew Jefford | Deep, clear black-red, with a more translucent style than some of its peers, and with a little more bricking and browning, too, though the hue remains dark. Warm, embracing aromas packed with ample sweet cherry-plum fruits; there’s mellow cedar, too, and scented, vanilla-rich tobacco. I had hoped that with time in the glass the wine would open further but it evolves little, without ever quite achieving fragrant charm. Attractive nonetheless. On the palate, this is relatively full-fleshed and round, with a little more upholstery than many of its peers and avoiding the dry, bitter finish that some of the wines have. It has aromatic complexity and delivers palate satisfaction without shooting out any of the lights. | 90
Richard Mayson | Mid-deep center, looking distinctly mature on the rim; quite sullen on the nose with underlying hint of milk-chocolate concentration and depth; soft, quite voluptuous initially, ripe, round fruit supported by firm, light tannins and a touch of bittersweet depth on the finish, which rather tails off. | 88
