Simon Field | Minty and subtly smoky, raspberry, cherry, and fennel immediately evidenced. Thereafter, the wine has an impressive color and a palate with a sturdy gastronomic grip, a capacity to evolve, and a clear affinity to descriptors borrowed from widely differing chapters of the vinous repertoire. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Darker hued than its South African peer, and drier and grassier in style: some camphor, eucalypt, and cardamom. Clearly a wine crafted with far more seriousness and ambition than [the Tierhoek Grenache Piekenierskloof], this is close-grained, deep, dense, with satisfying tannic grip yet some lively acidity, too. It has complex fruit allusions (apple, pomegranate, sloe, rosehip, and other wild fruits) and a thorny rigor to it. Excellent, dryish, gastronomic Grenache from I’d guess old vines and dry lands, but note the way that this variety emerges with balance even from the toughest of conditions—a theme of this tasting. | 91
David Williams | A simple, succulent style with a savory edge to the clean-cut raspberry fruit. Plenty of tannin here, but the overall impression is almost racy, with a very refreshing citrusy (ruby grapefruit) tanginess. | 90
