BUY THE WINE

Bruno Besa | Ruby to garnet. Open, mature, red-fruit nose, with complex mineral character and hints of tar, rose, violets, dried herbs, and smoke. Full body, with mature black-cherries palate. A touch overripe on the finish. | 91

Andrew Jefford | Clear garnet black-red. This wine’s aromatic profile is refined, settled, harmonious, and calmly elegant, though there is not a wealth of allusive detail here. Some leather and polish behind the quietly curranty fruits. On the palate, the wine is concentrated, long, and refined, too: excellent Barolo for the vintage, with sustained, poised ripeness, firm tannins, and soft, understated acidity working in support of a fruit core of real sophistication. Excellent work here; broodingly dense and dark. | 91

Michael Palij | The wine shows complex spicy notes of black fruit, including blackberry, black currant, and pepper, with no obvious oak. The palate continues to deliver, with a long finish driven by minerality and ripe tannins. This is a superb example of Monforte Barolo, with the fruit leading genuine complexity on the finish. | 93
