Simon Field: An upstanding citizen, bristling with benevolent potential and assertive charm. Inky purple, an attractive lift, which is not volatile, dark chocolate and voices from the kitchen garden. Cerebral and intriguing for all that, de profundis; the rigor of youth will evolve with great dignity and no shortage of flamboyant creativity. | 91
Andrew Jefford: Saturated, dark black-red, though less leggy than many of its peers. Pure, fine-grained blackcurrant fruit with licorice intrigue; attractive if straightforward just now. Straightforward on the palate, too: a sheer curtain of structured, tannic-backed blackcurrant fruit, but to put it in those terms may well undersell this excellent wine. It has magnificent fruit purity, depth, and poise, and there are fine perfumer’s spices waiting in the wings. The tannins are sumptuously extracted; it may be a little drier than some. An outstanding Vintage Port. | 92
Richard Mayson: Deep, opaque; lovely ripe cherry fruit aromas, open and fragrant; soft and supple, not big but with a lovely, firm tannic spike rising in the mouth and subsiding on the finish, which ends with suave berry fruit freshness and verve. | 89
