Bruno Besa | Ruby to garnet. A touch closed, with small red fruits. Herbal, a touch medicinal, and spirited on the nose. Medium body, with layered fruit and firm tannins. Long, sweet red-fruit finish. Not showing its best today, but it should balance itself and improve with some bottle age. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Deep, clear black-red. Sweet, simple, diverting cherry fruits dominate this wine’s scents. Pretty if straightforward. Fresh red fruits on the palate, though with serious tannins to give them ballast and gravity; an enjoyable drink for the short to medium term, given that the “Brunello nobility” is here despite the vintage difficulties. | 87
Michael Palij | The pronounced nose shows a savory element of camphor, ash, cedar, and toffee, dried cherries, tar, and licorice indicating obvious oak and very ripe fruit. It’s just inappropriate in this vintage. The palate is attenuated and unflattering, with a surfeit of tannins and insufficient fruit to balance with soft acidity. This wine lacks the balance and freshness required to age. | 81
