Alex Hunt | Fairly closed, vaguely beetrooty nose. Rather reticent on the palate, too, with a vitamin-pill dryness and a musty finish. This is the second bottle—perhaps both were mildly TCA-affected. | 78
Andrew Jefford | Dark black-red. Flowery, inky, earthy: a strange mixture. Not unattractive, but not classical either. Let’s try another bottle, as this seems to me to be a potentially interesting wine, and I’m hoping for a cleaner, more pristine version (there is some TCA). Bottle 2: A serious effort at making true Pinot—relatively complex Pinot aromas, with some floral notes as well as fruit. On the palate, it is brightly fruity but with fresh acidity and a little shaping tannin. A wine trying to aim a little higher than simple varietal style. In the end, however, we feel that both bottles are slightly scalped by TCA, which is a shame. My encouraging score is supposing that the wine was pristine, but we only have these two bottles to go on, so it has to go into brackets and doesn’t count. (90) | 74
Anthony Rose | This shows unusual depth of color for Pinot, though it’s starting toward a degree of browning at the rim; plenty of bright red berry fruits and spice on the nose, distinctly Pinot, fair concentration and intensity, suggesting older vine-age complexity, with a lovely, savory, mulberry-fruit quality, real brightness and intensity, subtle oak and substantial flavors enveloped in a distinctively firm framework of ripe, fine tannins and extra, specially bright, acidity. | 92
