Simon Field: Deep inky colour, with a complex and herbal nose. The wine has grip and an intrusive weight of spirit that is quite forgivable in youth. Underneath, it is dense, with tightly knit tannins, firm acidity and a slightly hot finish that will probably cairn with age. 16
Andrew Jefford: Red purple, opacity now lost. Really lovely blackcurrant scents. This one still has some of the sweet green sappiness of youth clinging to it, combined with class pepper: lovely, shapely, alluring, living scents. Rich, mouth-filling, tangy, fat, full, textured, with good levels of extract swaddling the fresh fruit, which is nonetheless there and biding its time beneath. A big, bustling Port, just missing out on the very top marks since it doesn’t quite have the marrow and sinew of the very best. 17
Richard Mayson: Good deep colour, thin purple rim. Totally closed on the nose, giving very little away. Fine, firm, sinewy fruit with a solid tannic core. Long, tight tannic length. Very good, and should develop well. 17.5
