Rebecca Gibb: Yes, this was a warm vintage in St-Emilion, and it offers on both the nose and the palate the richness of fruit and expansiveness that you’d expect, but this is a wine that retains its classical structure with plenty of density packed into its core. Black-cherry and chocolate flavors give the impression of a Black Forest gâteau-like character that is immensely appealing, with interminable length offering up black fruit and violets, followed up by intense concentration packaged in a midweight, deeply satisfying whole. A very slight quibble is that I’d like to see a touch more acidity for its longevity. It will be interesting to see its evolution, particularly against the 2010 vintage. Drink 2018–30.
