Rebecca Gibb: Savory, woodsmoke, reminiscent of an English Sunday roast with meat and vegetables. Okay, it might not have been a great vintage on the Left Bank, but on the Right Bank, 2001 is often considered to be better than 2000. This wine has attained delicacy, transcending its component parts and becoming other-worldly. You can see the traces of its history in this glass: The abundant tannin framework is still there, but it has become almost transparent, like a ghostly veil, harking back to its youthful vigor. This wine is a thing of beauty, and I couldn’t help but be moved by it. The only thing that stopped me giving it 100 points was my tight, northern English constitution. Drink now.
