Bruce Schoenfeld: This is a gorgeous example of Napa Cabernet from a low-yield vintage that received much praise on release and has lived up to it. What’s most impressive 29 years later is its persistence, coupled with a nimbleness in the mouth that could serve as an example for California winemakers of today. The Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly green, meaning it tastes like Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit, tannin, and alcohol coexist harmoniously. I tasted this with no food to accompany it, and that’s a shame. I think it would have performed even better with dinner—something simple like roast chicken or braised beef. The fruit is still there.
