Nicolas Belfrage: Medium depth, quite bright. Not particularly expressive on the nose but fine, subtle—vanilla, plum. Surprisingly springy on the palate, with mouthwatering, typically Sangiovese acidity, cutting through the medium concentration of the fruit. Has typicity and elegance, plus a touch of power. Quite forward; drink from 2016. 16
Bruno Besa: Garnet to pink, tawny rim. Broad nose of cedarwood, sour cherries with elegant minerality and hint of mint. Medium to full body, with layered fruit just a touch short on the finish. Very well made and classy. 17
Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red. One of the most exotic aromas in the early flights of the tasting: vanilla, freshly cut hay, moist prunes, a touch of Frankincense. Almost kinky, but lots of fun. On the palate, not quite as plump as that aromatic spectrum suggested, but ripe and long, with lots of aromatic power lifting off what is actually quite prominent acidity; a drape of soft tannins at the end. Flamboyant, masterful, perhaps divisive, but a wine that would leave no one indifferent. A wine I’d love to drink in order to understand it a little better. It has a little less finesse than the wines I have marked most highly. 16
