Neal Martin: An expressive, more loose-knit nose compared to the 1998, defined by red fruit rather than black: touches of raspberry leaf, leather, a little soy, and attractive citrus aromas that are usurped by a scent of sloes with aeration, which almost disguises a vegetal element loitering stage left. Very harmonious on the palate, nicely balanced, with tangible minerality, leading to a quasi- Pomerol finish with touches of game, mulberry, and espresso. Drinking perfectly now. 17
