Stephen Brook: Opaque red, but already quite evolved. Dumb nose with a whiff of oak. Opens with a whack of tannin that overwhelms the sweet fruit that is trying to emerge. Unbalanced, solid, chunky. Giscours is often quite a big wine for Margaux, but this has too much weight for its own good and the fruit struggles. Moderate acidity and little finesse. The finish is dry. Not for cellaring. 12
Stephen Browett: Medium color, with a very spicy nose. The palate has a sexy melange of barbecue flavors, chocolate, and summer pudding. A lovely, plush wine with excellent ripeness and spice. Decadent and moreish. 15.5
Michael Schuster: Very dark red; ripe fruit plus a touch of herbaceousness to smell; quite lively middleweight of moderate concentration, with a very firm tannin round a plump, juicy fruit; straightforward flavor, within a very chewy texture, quite good fruit length, but likely to remain relatively hard work. Again, that 2003 “stolid” character. From 2010. 14.5
