Jesús Barquín: Well assembled on both nose and palate: curry, an iodine note, elegant, balanced, fresh, complex, mouthwatering. Impressive, truly great. 19.5

Simon Field: Supremely elegant color, garnet with a gentle halo; the nose is complex, balsamic, herbal, peaty, and with a hint of the high altar; very complete. 17

Jancis Robinson: Bright crimson. Complex, tobacco—even cigars—nose. Very demanding and bone-dry. Much drier than most Rioja. But it still has life. Vibrant and delicate and racy; choose food with this with care. Long and very fresh. Drink 1975–2000. 17
