BUY THE WINE

Jesús Barquín: Caramel, underbrush, expressive. The palate is savory, umami; good acidity, soft tannins, textbook old Rioja. 18

Simon Field: Gentle slow-burn color, nose of autumn and distant memories of aimlessly kicking leaves after school. Palate redeems us from the prosaic with bittersweet, almost cerebral notes. 18

Jancis Robinson: Mid-ruby. Very open indeed on the nose, with a certain sweet strawberry character. This wine is fine-boned and has lots of acidity. Dry finish. Neat and very well balanced. Just a little austere but certainly refined. Mid-length. Drink 1980–2015. 17.5
