Nicolas Belfrage: Medium-deep with turn. Lightly floral nose, almost rose. Nicely rounded wine with fruit, flower, acid, and tannin all meeting together and lasting long in mouth, almost drinking now but with time ahead. Not powerful or intense but together a nice amalgam of different elements, with length to boot. First wine in tasting [13th wine tasted] to demonstrate high quality of vintage. 18
Stephen Brook: Relatively light in color. Fragrant sour-cherry and menthol nose, very Sangiovese, with plenty of lift and freshness. Medium-bodied, but this has intensity and drive. High acidity makes this assertive now, but I don’t find any greenness. It’s tight but has admirable raciness and fresh, crunchy fruit. Shows admirable restraint, with no element in excess or out of balance. There seems a bit too much pungency at present, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and suggest it will become more harmonious with more bottle age and that its energy and persistence will keep it going for a decade or two. 18
Andrew Jefford: Clear mid-garnet. Warm, refined red fruits over a creamy base. Just a tickle of clove at the edges here. Satisfying and well-composed aromatic profile. Elegant, clean, lively, brisk, and fresh, with attractive ripeness and poise. It’s not the most ambitious or concentrated wine in the tasting, but it’s a satisfying and resonant wine built on a core of ripe fruit that would have wide drinking appeal. 14
