Alex Hunt: Engagingly opulent nose, slightly reminiscent of Zinfandel, with plum jam, apricots, and vodka to the fore. The palate shares the exuberant sweetness of the nose, which the tannins have to try a little bit too hard to contain. The pithy, apricot-skin finish is actually a very neat touch, but before that there is a struggle for focus - 15
Andrew Jefford: Saturated dark red-black. Quite a simple aroma: warm, tangy, a touch baked, dry. Deep on the palate, though, with impressive concentration and extractive force. The central-palate fruit is quite sheer and undeveloped in terms of fruit flavor, and that may be why it plays a less prominent role on the aromas than one would hope for. But these are minor criticisms for what is, in the overall southern-hemisphere context, an impressive wine of real sinew and substance. More aromatic refinement is needed, though, to lift the score a little - 14.5
Jancis Robinson: Blackish crimson. Quite a subtle nose, with layers of dryness. Not nearly as sweet as most Argentinians. Remarkably dry on the end, in fact. Almost austere. Fades a little fast. Certainly not luscious. Ambitious but a little bit brutal. Drink 2014–19 - 16
