Alex Hunt: Aromatically, this wine has a very distinctive voice, majoring as it does on notes of red (bell) pepper as well as blackcurrant. The palate continues the theme, and while I admire its daring, it ends up a bit of a compromise between fruit and vegetable. Green tannin jars with inherent fruit sweetness - 14.5
Andrew Jefford: Very dense, dark, glossy black-red. Sweet, full, a touch dry, with some raisiny notes, and a consequence of that fruit profile is that the oak steps up more prominently than perhaps one might hope. On the palate, this is deep and full but lacks fruit freshness. It has ample tannin and extractive force—but for fine-wine harmony and poise, we really need a slightly fresher and more vivid fruit expression in the central palate. It tastes a little angular and clunky - 13
Jancis Robinson: On the cusp of overripeness, but then that’s true for most Châteauneuf nowadays. Pretty sinewy but appetizing on the palate. Very fresh rather than sweet on the finish— unusual for an Argentinian icon! Distinctive and savory. Drink 2014–19 - 16.5
