SF | Green gold. Aromas of cashew, peanut and tilleul, a lick of oxidation beyond the yeasty orchard fruit core. Intensely dry, almost ascetically so, therefore in need of the counterpoint of tapas. Andalusian rigour in play, a polarising style borrn in the hay loft, nurtured under warm sun, its low alcohol belying a wealth of generous flavour. 89
AJ | A slightly fuller gold than most of its peers in this unfortified flight. Most of the aromatics are 'young wine' here rather than any pronouced note of flor (for me) -- in creamy style, but at the same time with a light oxidative tang to add a lttle interest. Unique and attractive. Oh .. perhaps there was more flor than I noticed on the nose; that is certainly the message of the flavour, which is more yeasty and lightly tangy than anything. Though of course to get 11% in these African latitudes the grapes will have to have been picked well before full flavour ripeness, so that may also account for the missing fruit flavours and fermentative wealth. Light, lemony, refreshing, absolutely spotless and funk-free, very controlled. Good, though, and refreshing drinking on a hot day.Drink Dates: 2024 - 2025. 89
DW | Apple, almond, dried cherry, marzipan, some honey ... Spanish sweet treats characterize the scents and flavors, which develop a slight vermouth-ish, macerated herb / fennel note, too. All very complex and interesting and characterful, concentrated but lively, with a savoury-yeasty tug and a tangy and juicy finish. Another fascinating white wine which is all the more impressive for offering so much flavor and interest at a scant 11% abv.Drink Dates: 2024 - 2030. 93
