Simon Field | Violets, gum cistus, juniper, and fennel, a hint of beet maybe. The sweet and the savory entwine, and the palate, once one penetrates the lively and assertive fruit character, is generous and accommodating, fine acidic grip to the fore, the spirit powerful but well integrated, the fruit providing an acanthine distraction. All set fair... | 91
Andrew Jefford | Dense, dark, black-red with a purple rim. This is the first of the ’17s not to be immediately enticing; there’s toffee, plants, mint, and pine as well as plum and damson fruits, but they have a slight rawness or brute quality to them. Lots there, nonetheless. On the palate, this is generously constituted, almost beefy and attractive in that style, and with lots to give over the medium to long term. No qualms other than a certain lack of focus and charm. | 92
Richard Mayson | Dense, ripe, minty, slightly exotic fruit on the nose with plenty more to give. Similarly ripe, expressive, and exotic on the palate; tight-knit, firm tannins massing and a big, firm, bittersweet finish, with depth and poise. Great resonance, combining depth and charm equally. | 97
