Simon Field | Deep purple, only the most marginal of cores. The nose is unformed, unsurprisingly; pine resin, crushed raspberry, plum, and compote. Very ripe and forward, elegant but with a sinewy, salty charm; precocious, of course, with hints of black tea and plum duff. Hard to read, which is probably a good thing in the circumstances—but almost foursquare in its rigor and latent capacity to challenge expectation. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Midnight-black core out to deep purple at the rim, with lots of glass-clinging leg. This is much more primary in fruited terms than many of its peers: singing blackcurrant lift, with lots of forest plum and sloe behind. There’s vanilla, herbs, and crushed pepper, too: a wonderfully exciting aroma to this very exciting young Vintage Port. On the palate, it is lively, lifted, zesty, and long, with huge depth of fruit, dense tannins, and thick textures. And the aromatic complexity here bodes well, though there are even more massive wines in this astonishing vintage. | 94
Richard Mayson | Open floral character on the nose with a leafy green uplift; attractive mid-weight berry fruit, firm but slightly green tannins, and a rather bony, linear finish. Lacks depth and breadth. Simple and one-dimensional. | 84
