Simon Field | Deep set, carved into the insecure rock of potential. Camphor, pepper, dark fruit, and a raw, lapidary swell. One for the long, longer, and longest term. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Very deeply colored, its black-red giving way to purple at the rim. Fragrant and sweet as poured, with more refinement than most of its 2018 peers: Flowers, tea leaf, laurel, pine, and cistus qualify the plum and damson fruits. Vivid, lively, poised, and with some lift and energy, this is an excellent reading of the vintage. You couldn’t call it “fresh” and the tannins are lighter than for its more massive peers, but the overall shape and energy are impressive. After some time, though, the aromatics fade a little, and the wine comes across as almost baked. | 90
Richard Mayson | Deep, dense, ripe black cherry fruit on the nose, with underlying depth and plenty more to give. Firm, berry fruit with some breadth and depth. Dark-chocolate intensity, with tannins massing onto the finish; lovely length, showing freshness and definition. | 92
