Andrew Jefford: Deep scarlet though translucent. Oak here takes the lead in the aromatic profile, with relatively subdued fruits beneath. The oak is quite spicy, so this has a Christmassy feel to it. That’s pretty much the story of the palate, too, so although there are some impressive raspberry fruits here the oak is slightly lording it over them at present. Give the wine a little time to see if it eases back. | 88
Jasper Morris: Clear bright color with some density. There is a faint pine-resin note to the bouquet, which may come from the barrel. There is a bit more extraction evident here than for some of the wines, and whether or not this is the right move will divide opinion. On the plus side is the weight of fruit and length of flavor; against that is the slight lessening of freshness and a little bit too much oak. | 87
Catherine Petrie: A deep, brilliant ruby. Smoky red-berry fruit on the nose, with some savory minerality. Light, powdery tannins melt away quickly on the palate, though the wine’s freshness gives it a persistence that elevates it. Refined, with lingering appeal. | 90
