Simon Field: Deep, almost luminous, profound and compelling; briary and hedgerow, forest floor and dark fruit, then raisin, currant, and a whiff of herb; cardamom maybe, cinnamon—unabashed in its complexity, therefore. Youthful, strident, and plush; a top example from a forward and generous vintage, more savory notes compelling serious analysis of the palate. Kaleidoscopic in intent, only party realized thus far. | 92
Andrew Jefford: Rivetingly deep and dark; very glossily black, like night on the water. A very fine aromatic profile, too: perfumed fruits and fine-milled spices; a sweet, almost milky or veal-like animal presence; some pithy citrus. Very beautiful on the palate: deep, sumptuous fruits, with ample creaminess; slow-fuse, fine-milled tannins; and some nascent spice and savory complexities. The outstanding wine of its vintage, based on our selection. | 91
Richard Mayson: Very deep, opaque, inky color; heady nose, ripe, with dark-chocolate intensity and focus; lovely, solid, ripe fruit, with the same dark- chocolate intensity as the nose, fine and focused, with solid supporting tannins, fruit showing great depth and purity, leading to a wonderful broad peacock’s tail of a finish, with the purity of fruit reemerging. One for the long term. 2030–60+. | 96
