Simon Field: Deep, aristocratic hue, just a hint of faded grandeur in deference to age; nose of forest floor, damson, and plum; the reticence is echoed in the mouth, savory elements cloaking the sweet fruit, a linear profile, on the cusp of full maturity its seems. The burn of alcohol is rather overwhelming at the moment. | 87
Andrew Jefford: Dark red though translucent, with a little brick red. Creamy, gentle, soft aromas of fading red and black fruits, with just a little tar. Much less sweet-scented than most; indeed, it is almost clarety (as unsweet Ports from this branch of the Port family can be in aroma terms). On the palate, this is a medium-bodied, smooth-textured Port, with lively red and black fruits, a forest-spice finish, and a touch of menthol. Lots to enjoy. | 85
Richard Mayson: Good mid-deep youthful hue, just turning on the rim; graceful, floral fruit emerging on the nose, berry fruit and rose petals, still with more to give. Lovely, pure, focused fruit backed by firm, fine-grained tannins, long and elegant. Not the biggest of the 1994 bunch, perhaps, but still very beautiful. Drink now and over the next 25 years. | 93
