Simon Field: Light, rather tame colouring. On the nose, mocha and coffee bean with notes of vanillin and strawberry. The palate is equally dilute. The acidity is slightly overwhelming, with the structure suffering accordingly. Lightweight, not without appeal, but slightly confected. 13
Andrew Jefford: Lamentably pale and evanescent. Dry and high-toned. Ibid. Nothing wrong with it as a drink, but as Vintage Port this should never have got through the IVP tasting. There are better filtered LBVs than this. 9
Richard Mayson: Showing signs of maturity, with a browning rim. Mature, rather hollow aromas and slightly baked and stewed. Fresher on the palate with attractive berry fruit and peppery tannins. Long for a 1985. Drink now and over the next 10-15 years. 12.5
