Simon Field: Purple colour, hints of garnet at the rim. A subtle nose, quite stern, yet promising to yield in time. Elegant mouthfeel with eloquent counterpoint between ripeness of fruit and beautifully woven tannins. Expressive and promising. 16
Andrew Jefford: Dark, handsome red-black; no sign of bricking. Intriguing, unusual scents, with some floral notes as well as notes of moist coal over a dark-fruit base. Evolves in the glass. Rich, spicy, much more deeply constituted than any of the '91s, this is well-made Port with plenty of life ahead. Slightly shallow, salty quality to the fruit is the only thing holding it back. 16
Richard Mayson: Very good deep opaque centre, thin crimson rim. Wonderfully rich, powerfully ripe nose, still withdrawn but with much more to give. Big, ripe, fleshy fruit and broad, ripe tannins, with wonderful freshness and vibrancy. Very fine and imposing, with great breadth and length. Better in 3-5 years. Drink 2007-2020 and beyond. 18.5
