Andrew Jefford | Green silver, and brightly hued. Quite emphatic, planty, and sappy notes here, with plenty of conveyed sense of a cooler site, but pure and finely sculpted, resonant and long. This is a super nose, which only grows better with time in the glass. On the palate, we have a shapely, well-filled, supported wine of poised, nuanced fruits (green apple, hard pear), packed with cool green and root spice (iris and gentian). There’s not much in the way of “chalkiness” or “stoniness” but the complexity of that wealth of central palate fruit and the fine grain and weave of its green, planty notes more than justifies the wine’s cru status. Stephan Reinhardt | This Sancerre opens like a Bavarian Schweinekrustenbraten: intense, bright, and stimulating, with herbal and flinty notes. In a blind tasting, I could easily mistake this for a Pessac-Léognan. The palate is rich and almost sweet in its concentration, but there is also a very tight and almost astringent tannin structure that I would call challenging. Good freshness and vitality, but this powerful 2015 needs a decade or so to shine | 93
