Bruno Besa | Ruby to pink. Refined, clean, elegant small red-fruits nose, with a lively floral character. Wild strawberry, raspberry, and crushed-stones nose. Medium body, layered red and black fruits, hints of vanilla and a clean, restrained finish. Very well-made Brunello, showing the gentle side of the grape variety and vintage. | 92
Andrew Jefford | Clear light bright red. There seems to be some vanilla here, and toast, too, but it’s not unattractive. In this vintage, the fruits struggle to assert themselves—but they manage, and the overall effect is enticing. A taste reveals the same dual nature on the palate, but here my feeling is that the vanilla is winning out, and the fruit has struggled to make its voice heard. | 84
Michael Palij | This leaps out of the glass with a convincing nose of ripe, red and black fruit with some obvious and obtrusive oak overlaid on top. The nose of vanilla, clove, aniseed, bay, and blackberry leads to an angular and willful finish, where the tannins and oak aromas run wild with what little Sangiovese character might once have existed. This disappoints in the end, no matter how dramatic the nose. | 83
