BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage | Deepish with garnet rim. A little quiet on the nose, strawberries come through—soft red fruit. Rich, very ripe fruit, a little out of whack with tannins, a touch tough, and the fruit pleasant but a little monothematic. Drink from 2020. | 88

Bruno Besa | Deep ruby to pink. A touch closed, yet ripe and clean small-black-and-red-fruits nose, with meaty, spicy character. Medium to full body, with clean, mature fruits and a long, mineral finish. | 91

Andrew Jefford | Clear, deep black-red. Sweet, warm, cherry, and semolina scents, with a faintly medicinal back-note: a delicate and softly woven aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is a little more concentrated than some. It lacks warmth and resonance of fruit, as many Brunelli do in this vintage, but there is concentration and structure here, and a sense of forthrightness that I’m happy to find. A rewarding purchase at the right price. | 88
