BUY THE WINE

Alison Buchanan: Black plum in colour, this offers sweet, sultry fruit on the nose, blown blueberry fruit, hot fruitcake and warm earth. The palate is opulent and supple, richly textured and very fine, underpinned by grainy tannins. Mocha and vanilla-cream layers add to the seduction. 17.5

Jancis Robinson: Dark purple. Musky, slightly ‘wet barrels’ (sweaty), some spicy fruit but nice big fruit style, although not quite ‘clean’ in the mid-palate. Good length, enough fruit and tannin for balance, but not exceptional. 16

Jeremy Watson: This is a more traditional-style young Rioja with a short time in oak barrels. Rich ruby colour without excessive extract, and glorious flavours in the mouth. A great wine. 19
