Alison Buchanan: This is rather subdued, reluctantly hinting at inky, earthy fruit, vanilla and pencil lead. The palate is much more attractive, with dark, inky fruit layered with mocha cream. There is a reasonable progression on the palate and a medium finish. 16
Jancis Robinson: Dark purple. Subtle, perfumed, very clean. Crisp tannins, lovely fruit, excellent balance. The tannins just dominate at the moment, but the fruit will make a comeback. Beautifully made. 18
Jeremy Watson: Yet another high-extract wine but again showing just a touch of Rioja’s traditional softness. Brick red, good firm fruit and oak aromas with depth of flavour in the mouth and good length. 18.5
