Andrew Jefford: Relatively pale. Short, curtailed aromas. Simple, rather tart wine. 9

Simon Larkin : Appearance not vastly different to von Buhl’s Forster Kirchenstuck. A musky, grapey touch, impure. Lacks vibrancy - short-lived. No poise; really rather unappetising. Peel-like qualities of cooking apple and marked citric acidity destroy any sense of pleasure. Poor. 10.5

Alexander Scott: Soft nose, less of the citrus pith of young Rhine Riesling; a fleeting hint of old wood perhaps. Densely woven palate, slight note of lychees, with considerable length. We seem to be well south into the Palatinate by now, and in 2003 I am taking a high degree of ripeness as a matter of course. But there’s more to this wine than ripeness. It wraps multiple layers around a tight core. Very fine wine. 17.5
